In light of the request of Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan and his appeal to the Prime Minister, Israel's National Infrastructure Committee has decided to postpone deliberations on a new power plant in Ashkelon indefinitely. Minister Erdan based his request on the Ministry of Environmental Protection's assessment of the air pollution which will be generated the operation of such a station and the addition of 10% of Israel's emissions, at a time when the world is busy dealing with reduction commitments of greenhouse gas emissions. Minister Erdan" I am sure that at the end of the day, logic will prevail over the pressures of the Electricity Corporation, and that the coal fired power plant is not constructed in Israel."
